A small Small Business summary

Small business is a term that is used day-to-day. That is because in the past decade the rise of small business has been larger than in any other decade prior. This is largely due to the increasing number of services that are available to small business owners, to enable them to keep their business running.

There really isn't any guidelines for when the term small business is used, however it is simply defined as a business which has a small number of employees. How few employees is debatable, and the definition of when a business changes from a small business to a larger corporation varies both by country and industry. This number is generally less then 100 employees.

As mentioned before small businesses due to their nature, are in most times sole proprietorships, partnerships, or privately owned. Common in may countries, small businesses, are most oftenly related to: accountants, restaurants, guest houses, photographers, small shops, hairdressers, tradesmen, solicitors, lawyers, small-scale manufacturing etc.

Small businesses in often cases are located in private homes, for two main reasons. The first is because it is economical and in most cases convenient. The second reason is that there are several benifits with tax,etc for having your business in your home.

Running a small business is an exciting venture, and a great way to introduce yourself into the business world, and to gain business sense. If you are interested in starting your own small business, I would recommend having a talk with a local lawyer or accountant, who will be able to answer questions that are specific to your local area. A family of England supporters head out one Saturday to steal their Christmas shopping. While in JJB Sports, the son picks up a Scotland football shirt and says to his sister, "I've decided I'm going to be a Scotland supporter and I want this shirt for Christmas!"

The sister is outraged at this, promptly whacks him round the head and says, "Go talk to your mother!" Off goes the unusually intelligent little lad, with Scotland shirt in hand and finds his mother. "Mum, I've decided I'm going to be a Scotland supporter and I want this shirt for Christmas."

The mother is outraged and promptly whacks him round the head and says, "Go talk to your father." Off goes this little pearl amongst low life swine, with Scotland shirt in hand and finds his father. "Dad, I've decided I'm going to be a Scotland supporter and I want this shirt for Christmas."

The father is outraged at this, promptly whacks his son round the head and says, "No son of mine is ever going to be seen in THAT!"

About half an hour later, they are all back in the stolen car heading home. The father turns to the son and says, "Son, I hope you have learned something today?" The son turns to his father and says, "Yes, Father, I have'.

Father says "Good son, what is it?" The son replies "I've only been a Scotland supporter for an hour and I already hate you English bastards!!"

Pakistan: governments must do more

Record floods have torn through Pakistan, leaving millions of people without shelter, food or water.

The UN has urgently appealed for $460 million to provide critical relief for flood-ravaged Pakistan. But so far, donor governments have only committed 60% of this. After visiting the flood stricken areas, a visibly upset UN General Secretary, Ban Ki Moon, said "This has been a heart-wrenching day for me. In the past, I have visited many natural disasters, but I have never seen anything like this."

Thousands of towns and villages have been washed away -- roads, buildings, bridges, crops. Now people are stranded on tiny islands surrounded by flood waters. With no clean water to drink, cholera, diarrhea and other sicknesses are on the rise, threatening the millions of people who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

The international response so far has not matched that of previous large scale disasters. Organisations like UNICEF and WHO have said they lack the funds to provide adequate assistance.

The governments of the world need to do more, and we can lead by example. Let's stand with Pakistan at this time of crisis, and ask important donor governments to do the same.

The New Politics

Politics, in all its forms, is bankrupt. The notion that we can safely and successfully hand over the management of our daily lives and the setting of priorities to a political class or elite is thoroughly discredited. Politicians cannot be trusted, regardless of the system in which they operate. No set of constraints, checks, and balances, is proved to work and mitigate their unconscionable acts and the pernicious effects these have on our welfare and longevity.

Ideologies - from the benign to the malign and from the divine to the pedestrian - have driven the gullible human race to the verge of annihilation and back. Participatory democracies have degenerated everywhere into venal plutocracies. Socialism and its poisoned fruits - Marxism-Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism - have wrought misery on a scale unprecedented even by medieval standards. Only Fascism and Nazism compare with them unfavorably. The idea of the nation-state culminated in the Yugoslav succession wars.

People are voting with their feet. Most elections draw to the ballot boxes and the polling stations less than half the electorate.

Three models seem to be emerging as the dominant forms of future politics:

I. Anarchism, both destructive (international terrorism, for example) and constructive (the Internet, for instance).

II. Participatory democracy, both destructive (mob rule and coups) and constructive (people power, especially in Asia and Latin America).

III. In certain countries, mainly in the West, a disenchanted and uninterested citizenry will relegate power and vest it in various oligrachies, forfeiting its decision-making prerogatives altogether and permanently in return for material welfare and personal safety.
